Flutter is Google's toolkit for building apps. A team writes one codebase in the Dart language and ships it as an Android app and an iOS app. For most business apps, such as booking, tracking, field-work and customer apps, it is a good choice because it keeps cost and maintenance down while giving a smooth, consistent experience.
We built the Trripah mobile app in Flutter, so this comes from using it, not from a feature list.
What Flutter gives you
- One codebase, two platforms. One team builds and maintains both apps, so features reach Android and iOS together.
- Consistent design. Flutter draws its own interface, so screens look and behave the same on both platforms.
- Fast iteration. Changes show up on a running app in moments, which speeds up design review.
- Good fit with a backend. The app talks to your APIs, CRM, payments and AI features like any other client.
Where Flutter is a good fit
- Customer apps with accounts, bookings, payments and notifications
- Internal apps for field staff, sales and operations
- Apps that need to ship on Android and iOS at the same time
- A first version that you want to test with real users
Where native may be better
- Apps built around the newest platform-specific features, such as deep operating-system integrations
- Very heavy graphics or games
- Cases where a team already has strong native Android or iOS developers and one platform only
If you only need to show information, a fast mobile website may be enough. Apps earn their place with offline use, notifications, device features or a faster daily workflow.
How a Flutter project runs
- Discover: who uses the app and the five things they do most.
- Design: a clickable prototype you can react to.
- Build: short sprints with a working build after each one.
- Release: testing, then publishing to Google Play and the App Store from your developer accounts.
- Maintain: updates for new Android and iOS versions.
